Lecture Announcement: Lectures by Professor Xia Yong and Associate Professor Bi Kaiming from Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Funded by the Hong Kong and Macau Joint Laboratory (Research Center) Construction Project, and at the invitation of Professor Bao Yuequan and Professor Hou Rongrong of the School of Civil Engineering, Professor Xia Yong, Editor-in-Chief of *Advances in Structural Engineering*, and Associate Professor Bi Kaiming, Associate Editor of *Engineering Structures*, both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will visit our university from December 11th to December 12th, 2023, and give presentations.  Interested faculty and students are welcome to attend.

Biography of the speaker, Professor Xia Yong

Xia Yong is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a recipient of the National High-Level Talent Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China Overseas and Hong Kong/Macau Scholars Collaborative Research Fund (Outstanding Young Scholars Program B). He is a Senior Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Board Member of the International Society for Intelligent Structural Health Monitoring. He serves as a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the SCI journal *Advances in Structural Engineering*. His research focuses on structural health monitoring of large civil engineering structures, structural damage identification, and substructure methods for large structures. He has led and participated in the structural health monitoring of large landmark structures such as the 600-meter-high Guangzhou Tower, the 632-meter-high Shanghai Tower, the Hong Kong Tsing Ma Bridge (main span 1377 meters), the Stonecutters Bridge (main span 1018 meters), and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. He has published two English monographs on structural health monitoring, four international conference proceedings, several industry standards for structural health monitoring, over 160 SCI papers, and over 140 international conference papers. He has received numerous awards, including the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award, the Second Prize of the Ministry of Education University Natural Science Award, the Gold Medal and Special Award at the 37th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, the Asia-Pacific Structural Engineering and Construction Nishino Award, and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Outstanding Paper Award.

 

Biography of the presenter, Associate Professor Bi Kaiming 


Dr. Kaiming Bi is an Associate Professor (President's Young Scholar) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a doctoral supervisor, and an Associate Editor of the international journal *Engineering Structures*. His research interests mainly include structural vibration control, earthquake engineering, and structural dynamics. He has published over 150 SCI papers in internationally renowned journals, with over 5400 citations on Google Scholar and an h-index of 40. Before joining PolyU in January 2023, Dr. Bi studied and worked at the University of Western Australia and Curtin University for nearly 16 years. He was an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow and an Associate Professor at the Centre for Infrastructure Monitoring and Protection (CIMP) at Curtin University. He has received numerous highly competitive research grants, including the prestigious ARC Future Fellowship and the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA Fellowship).
