To innovate the university-enterprise collaborative training mechanism, advance organized scientific research and talent development, and promote field-based investigation and practice for graduate supervisors, the Graduate Supervisor Practice Team from the School of Civil Engineering visited the China Academy of Building Research Co., Ltd. (CABR) on August 15 and16, with support from the Graduate School.
On the afternoon of August 15, a six-member delegation visited CABR, led by Vice Dean Yue Wu and Professor Xiaojian Gao, who is head of the Civil Engineering Materials discipline group. Representatives from CABR included Wei Zhao (Deputy Director, Human Resources Department) and Guozhu Li (Assistant Director), Feng Liu (Deputy Party Secretary and President, CABR Technology Co., Ltd.), Encheng Ma (Vice President, CABR Technology Co., Ltd.; Chairman, Beijing Glory PKPM Technology Co., Ltd.), Faguang Leng (Chairman and General Manager, Jianyan Building Materials Co., Ltd.), and Wensheng Gao (Chairman, Jianyan Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd.). Faculty members from the Graduate Education unit also attended the meeting. Both sides introduced their current practices in graduate education and held in-depth discussions on issues such as matching university and enterprise supervisors for professional engineering master’s and doctoral programs, faculty–student communication mechanisms, guidance on thesis topic selection, process management of thesis work, and co-development of jointly delivered courses.
A university–enterprise joint training base agreement was signed between the School and Beijing Glory PKPM Technology Co., Ltd., aiming to establish an integrated industry–education training base and explore new models of joint cultivation. Both sides expressed expectations for continued joint efforts in key scientific and technological challenges, as well as collaborative applications for national-level research projects and platforms, to foster a new pattern of coordinated industry–academia–research development.
During the meeting, Yue Wu presented certificates to the CABR experts who were appointed as off-campus part-time master's supervisors and expressed appreciation for ongoing guidance provided to the School’s graduate students.
The team also visited the CABR exhibition hall and the Glory Technology digitalization exhibition hall, gaining an overview of recent achievements in software development, engineering consulting, planning and design, product certification, equipment manufacturing, and smart operation and maintenance.
After the visits, team members held a discussion with engineering master’s and doctoral students already placed in enterprises. The discussion covered living and working conditions during enterprise-based training, identifying any difficulties encountered, and addressing questions related to training arrangements. The students reported favorable living and working conditions, regular communication with both university and enterprise supervisors, and steady progress in their research projects.
On the morning of August 16, the team conducted one-on-one meetings with collaborating enterprise supervisors and engineering graduate students currently in enterprise.
This visit and research exchange aligned closely with national reforms in the training of professional engineering master’s and doctoral students. The activity further consolidated and expanded collaboration, with both sides looking forward to achieving more outcomes in jointly tackling key core technologies and cultivating strategic talent for national priorities, thereby contributing to China’s modernization through advancements in science and technology.
