To further enhance the physical and mental health of faculty and staff and advance the principles of nation fitness, the Labor Union of the School of Civil Engineering continued this semester with the second table tennis training program for faculty and staff. Launched in mid-September, the program ran for nearly three months and offered a total of 12 sessions. Classes were held every Wednesday afternoon at the table tennis area in the School’s Sunshine Hall, making it convenient for participants to exercise during breaks from work.

A professional coach was invited to deliver the training, with tiered instruction tailored to participants of different skill levels. The curriculum covered standardized fundamental techniques, the application of combined skills, and tactical analysis for match play. Through group drills, multiball training, and simulated matchups, the program helped faculty and staff systematically improve their table tennis skills. While maintaining their regular teaching and research responsibilities, participating faculty members remained highly engaged throughout the sessions, with frequent interaction and an enthusiastic learning atmosphere.

During the training period, the Labor Union also organized complementary events such as faculty–student friendly matches and inter-departmental exchange matches. These activities not only assessed training outcomes but also strengthened team cohesion. Many participants noted that regular exercise helped alleviate common work-related discomfort, such as shoulder and neck strain, while also bringing a greater sense of physical and mental well-being.

As a key component of the School Labor Union’s “Healthy Living with Us” initiative, the program further enriched cultural and sports activities for faculty and staff and added fresh vitality into building a vibrant campus. Looking ahead, the Labor Union will continue to refine its activity offerings and introduce a broader range of fitness programs to further enhance faculty and staff satisfaction and sense of well-being.
